Athletic & Training Background

My love for weightlifting started at a young age while I was a competitive rower in high school. I thoroughly enjoyed the rowing conditioning program that I preferred being in the gym more then being in a boat. As I was studying mechanical engineering, I continued to focus on weightlifting and became very interested in biomechanics. This led to me getting certified as a personal trainer.
As I worked full time as an engineer and took on a few personal training clients I started to realize that most of my clients had pain or were unable to perform different lifts. This then lead to my career change in health care as a chiropractor. While in chiropractic college I gained even more knowledge of body mechanics but also started to branch out into sport performance. I then wanted to return back into team based sports and am currently playing a mixture of hockey, volleyball, curling and squash. My cross training is a hybrid of CrossFit, body building, Pilates, power skating and agility work.

Current Role Working with Athletes

I have been part of medical teams across several sports acting as a chiropractor and sport first responder, from powerlifting meets to CrossFit Opens to football games.  My contributions led me to become Lead Medical for the annual Sidney Crosby Hockey School (2015-present). I was also the first chiropractor to be part of the Hockey Nova Scotia High Performance Camps and assisted with the development of the Canada Games 2015 Male Hockey team. I continues to work as the team chiropractor for the Saint Mary’s University Football program as well as the Male and Female Hockey programs. I also see several other athletes in the clinic including but not limited to bodybuilders, powerlifters, and CrossFit athletes.

Professional Philosophy

I'm a functional chiropractor that blends my mechanical engineering and personal training background with current treatment protocols. I assess body structure and existing muscle development to figure out where muscle balance is required. My goal with chiropractic treatment is to not only alleviate my patients' pain by finding the root cause, but to also help them unlock their musculoskeletal potential for optimal sport performance. I also want to prevent other injuries from occuring so my active care prescription includes prehabilitation to help make my patients' bodies as resilient as possible.
