Athletic & Training Background

I grew up in the martial arts. I practiced and competed in judo from 6-13 and wrestled in middle school. After that I studied mixed martial arts from 13-19 to include: Jeet Kune Do (Bruce Lee's art), muay thai, silat, kali, mixed styles of grappling, and western boxing. In addition to that I've surfed, body surfed, surf kayaked, body boarded, and anything else involving the ocean since I was about 10. I've also been participating in CF as a coach and athlete for almost 10years.

I dabbled in some CrossFit type competitive stuff early on in the game but nothing serious. My goal for 2016 is to start competing in the USAW as a 105+ masters athlete.

In addition to that both of my parents were internationally competitive athletes. My Mom earned her pro card in bodybuilding when I was 15 and also competed in arm wrestling. My step father swam at a high competitive level as well and medalled internationally. I was constantly involved in hard, intense training environments from a young age. So I understand the lives athletes lead.

Current Role Working with Athletes

Currently, I run a private practice in Virginia Beach, Virginia. I've been a practicing for nearly 15 years specializing in pain relief and movement dysfunction for most of that time. My practice is located inside the CrossFit affiliate that my wife and I own so I have constant access to athletes of varying types. We are affiliate 102/12,000 so we have a lot of skin in the game.

I'm also currently a seminar staff member for and I travel to gyms as a part of the team educating coaches and athletes how to better care for their bodies and prevent problems from arising in the first place.

I also program privately for athletes. Currently I'm responsible for the S&C programs for:

  • Nationally ranked raw power lifter (USAPL)
  • World Cup Sailing Champion
  • Active Duty Military and Veteran Populations

Professional Philosophy

My treatment philosophy is centered around athlete education and personal responsibility. Although, manual therapy is a very effective means of accelerating and guiding healing processes it cannot compete with athlete behavior. I try to develop a relationship with the athlete that allows them to understand the root of dysfunction and to change their mindset and behavior from reactionary to proactive. This way the manual therapy they do receive serves as a catalyst and not a crutch.
