Athletic & Training Background

I began training two decades ago, in a basement, using equipment that I built. Since that time I have spent a lot of hours under the bar and exploring most of the training approaches I could find. At this point I tend towards an auto-regulatory based program with the majority of those I work with and myself. I had a brief period of competing and doing some research with powerlifting but primarily train for enjoyment and personal goals at this time.

Current Role Working with Athletes

Currently I work out of Black Diamond Physical Therapy where my practice focuses on tendinopathy, overuse injuries, and return to play after upper and lower extremity injuries. We also provide independent return to play testing utilizing a battery of isokinetic, dual force plate, and sports specific tests. I have a special interest in strength and power sports due to my background but have spent time in professional soccer as the Head of Medical Services for PRO and work with a lot of field and court sports as well.

Professional Philosophy

I believe that every patient is unique. I believe that a system based on sound principles will trump a collection of methods. I think identifying the optimal load for the individual at individual time points through the rehabilitation process is the key to success in this field. I believe this is done by taking an individual perspective that utilizes feedback loops to drive the decision making. Time invested to determine the right question is always rewarded by better answers.

"...I think the problem, to be quite honest with you, is that you've never actually known what the question is... once you know what the question actually is, you'll know what the answer means." - Douglass Adams
